Trust At Home Radon for all of your RADON testing and mitigation needs
WHAT IS RADON?
Radon is a colorless, odorless and tasteless radioactive gas created from natural deposits of uranium and radium in the soil. RADON can be found in homes built on all types of foundations (with or without basements).
IS IT A REAL CONCERN?
Yes! Radon is a nationwide problem. The EPA and the US Surgeon General have determined that RADON is the second leading cause of lung cancer, SECOND only to smoking.
According to the National Cancer Institute, the 5-year survival rate for people with lung cancer is just 15%. (This compares to 87% survival rates for breast cancer, 62% for colon cancer and 98% for prostate cancer.) The numbers don’t lie… over 20,000 lung cancer related deaths are caused each year by RADON.*
RADON can be drawn into your home and accumulate to concentrations that increase your family’s risk of contracting lung cancer. Elevated levels of RADON have been found in increasing numbers right here in Greater Cincinnati and potentially your neighborhood.
The only way you can tell if there are elevated levels of RADON in your home is to GET TESTED.
GET YOUR HOME TESTED
More and more informed homeowners are having At Home Radon perform radon measurement tests. When considering purchasing or selling a home, it becomes imperative that homeowners are informed of the air quality.
RADON TESTING IS EASY
1 Find the house you want to buy
2 As part of the Home Inspection process, request a short term radon test by At Home Radon, your qualified RADON measurement professionals. Home Inspectors may or may not be qualified to conduct radon testing.
3 If the test result is 4.0 pCi/L or higher, the EPA recommends that you fix the problem. If your test result is less than 4.0 pCi/L, the EPA does not require action.
CAN IT BE TREATED?
Finding elevated concentrations of RADON does not mean you should walk away from your dream home.
Of all the problems a house may have, RADON is one of the EASIEST to identify and correct through mitigation. Mitigation quite simply put is alleviation or reduction of the RADON levels in your home.
HOW IS RADON MITIGATED?
Virtually all RADON issues are corrected using Active Soil Depressurization. The leading method of RADON mitigation involved installing a simple fan system that draws the RADON-ladened soil gas from beneath the foundation outside of the building far enough away from windows or other openings so that it will not re-enter your home. |
